POSITIONS AVAILABLE AS OF JULY 30, 2008
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
AIDS Delaware seeks a new leader to replace its departing Executive Director who is leaving for an expanded mission of national and global work on HIV/AIDS after his twelve-year tenure with the agency.
AIDS Delaware is a 25 year old not-for-profit AIDS Service Organization that was founded by a diverse group of concerned citizens, first to address human rights injustices and then to build support services to address the HIV/AIDS crisis in the State of Delaware. The agency maintains its founding tenet of diversity (sexual orientation, race, creed and color), and continues to work on human rights matters as well as on its primary function of providing HIV/AIDS Case Management, Counseling and Testing, Public Health Prevention & Outreach, and Social Marketing capabilities throughout Delaware. The agency has a current annual budget of approximately $1.6 million and employs approximately 20 full-time staff.
We are looking for a dynamic self-starter, with the ability to communicate vision and mission to lead and develop our staff in our four offices throughout the state. Strong interpersonal skills and excellence in oral and written communications are critical, as the new Executive Director will be responsible for working with a broad spectrum of constituencies. These range from legislators and other elected officials at the state and local levels, to the leadership of foundations and other sources of agency support, to clients of all socio-economic levels, to the staff of the agency itself. The staff is professional and includes a Deputy Director, three Associate Directors, and three Department Directors, as well as professional case managers and support staff.
The successful applicant must have the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently as the position requires the ability to maintain the engagement, commitment and excitement of the board of directors, staff, volunteers, and supporters around the agency mission. Applicants must be familiar with the fundraising process of state, foundation, corporate and private individuals as well as the United Way. Experience with special events (the agency hosts AIDS WALK DELAWARE and four other annual fundraisers), major donor work and legacy/planned giving is required, as each is critical to the continued growth of AIDS Delaware.
